Have numbers but want to respect mandate, Mehbooba Mufti says after meeting J&K governor

Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti refused to open her party's cards for government formation even as she put the onus of honouring the J&K mandate on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Congress.

Speaking to reporters after meeting governor on Wednesday, Mehbooba Mufti citing media reports said that her party had support of more than 55 MLAs but will not form a government in a rush.

"The people of the state have given a very decisive but divided mandate. However, our priority is not to cobble up a majority by any means," Mehbooba Mufti said. "We want to form a government that will take care of aspirations of all regions of the state and allows us to pursue over agenda," the PDP chief said.

"The mandate given by the people of J&K is challenging but is also a great opportunity for the national parties to reach out to the people of the state,"

she heaped praise on Vajpayee for his efforts to resolve the problems of the state. Mehbooba Mufti blamed the UPA govt for undoing those efforts even as she put onus on BJP leadership for a stable government in the state. PDP which emerged as the single largest party in the state with 28 seats is the frontrunner to form the government.
